Wines of the World!

You don't need to take a physical trip to get a taste of the world. When I was a senior in college I took two electives through our hotel management program called 'Wines of the World' and "Food and Wine Pairing'. Real tough way to spend your senior year right? I have always enjoyed wine and when I would venture to the wine store I would try to pick wines from regions I have been to. Recently, I have found myself searching for wines of areas I will soon travel to. Either way, its a great way to get a taste of a place you have traveled to in hopes of reliving a moment or memory or get excited for a trip or vacation in your near future!

Explore your liquor/wine store for a gastronomic journey!

When pairing food and wine always remember, the things that grow together, go together. Wines get their unique flavors from the terroir in which they are grown. The word terroir comes from "terre," meaning land. The terroir is really the climate, geography, soil, topography, and any other influences in the growing of the grape vines. If the grapes get their flavor from their terroir, other things grown in the same region should pair well with them. For instance, pair olives and wine from the same region in Italy together as they have been influenced by similar earthly components. Animals are also effected by their terroir as they graze in the same regions as some of these vines are grown. If you are serving a French wine, pair with a cheese from the same region in France.

Try having a wine and tapas night for two or a wine party for a group. Serve wine and food from the same region of a far away country for a quick flavorful get away. The pairings should be well worth it. We will be sure to share our wine and food adventures as we travel to some of the finest wine regions in the world!
