Buenos Aires Pt. 2: Tango, Uruguay day trip, a Futbol championship celebration, and amazing PIZZA!

Nelson and Allie living it up on a moto in Colonia, Urugay! Notice Nelson's chin strap vs. Allie's!
Greetings from South America! Its still summer and we are loving our time here! If this picture does not capture that, nothing will!!! We found out real good pizza does exist south of the equator! We took a day trip to Colonia, Uruguay and we got much more out of it than a stamp in the passport. It was beautiful and romantic! We watched old couples dance tango at Confiteria Ideal, a charming romantic old dance hall/cafe. We joined in the celebration of La Boca winning the championship. Enjoy these pictures! They don't do justice to our enjoyment! So much fun! Next up, expect an Argentina summary and on to Peru where we will check out Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca!

Welcome to our favorite pizza place in Buenos Aires. El Cuartito! When we had to stand in a line that went out the door and down the sidewalk at 10:30pm on a Thursday night, we knew we found something good! The fact they opened in 1934 tells you they know what they are doing!
El Cuartito, old school no frills, pizza place.
Futbol memorabilia everywhere.
HEAVEN! Napolitana with sauce, tomatoes, cheese and lots of garlic! Yes, it was as good as it looks!

We had way too much fun with this!
Do you see what I see?
The open road

Beautiful views of the coast from our motor bike.
The old drawbridge and wall to protect the town.
Little cafes tucked around every corner.
Beautiful window scene

Tango at Confiteria Ideal. On a Saturday afternoon these couples were enjoying the music and the steps!
These two were two of the best that afternoon.
The ambience of the place was truly charming and romantic. It brought you back to a simpler day. The men courted the women to take a dance with them. Everyone was dressed to a T. It was clearly something they all looked forward to every weekend.
A random wedding ceremony, starting at about 9pm on a Saturday night. We can venture a guess that they partied all night!

So La Boca wins the futbol championship and the city goes crazy! (well at least half the city that like Boca). The main streets were instantly blocked by the cops. People flooded the city center with flags, jerseys, fireworks even! People were singing and chanting the team's songs. It was like nothing these sports fans from NY had ever seen. Think of a ticker tape parade for the Yankees, with no organization, structure, or player appearances! It was incredible and lots of fun.
Forgot to mention this was at 10pm on a Sunday night. At 12am when we walked back past this area after our dinner, they were still singing and celebrating!

  1. Phenomenal! From the one day trip to Uruguay and Colonia with your vespa to the mouth watering pizza and the frenzied futbol celebration in the streets. I found the couples "tango Saturday" so sweet and I'm sure it gives them joy and happiness that probably adds years to their lives.
    So happy for you both!

  2. A little jealous you were able to find good pizza in BA, we made the mistake of eating at Kentucky on Santa Fe and kept to steak the rest of our stay.

PS, Yanks are trying to dump AJ: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/12/07/the-yankees-are-shopping-a-j-burnett/
